OPIC, Regional and Local Authorities seek common ground to ensure the delivery of effective services to the population

Within the framework of its mission to enhance good governance and quality services for users, the Public Independent Conciliator, organized a one-day concertation seminar for Regional and Council administrations to boost collaboration with Regional and Local Authorities. Organized under theme ‘Strengthening Understanding of the Missions of the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator vis-à-vis the Regional Assembly, City and Local Councils: ”Laying the Ground Work for Positive Collaboration to Ensure Effective Service Delivery to Users”, the focus was to bring the Office and the actors of regional and local governance to find common grounds to ensure effective services delivery to the inhabitants of the South-west Region.

According to the Public Independent Conciliator, Mme Telelen Dorothy Atabong, OPIC wishes that collaboration with Regional and Local Authorities should be friendly, mutual and be one that makes citizens comfortable and as such become truly beneficial to inhabitants of the Region and service users in particular.

In his opening statement, while emphasizing the importance of participants to fully understand the role of the office of the Public Independent Conciliator, the Governor of the South West Region, H.E. Bernard Okalia Bilai commended and encouraged the Public Independent Conciliator and her team for the positive initiative which he noted exhibit the vision and readiness to use understanding and collaboration as the norm for the execution of the missions given to the office.

He went further to prescribed objectivity, fairness and impartiality as some of the core values for success in the efforts of the Office in the accomplishment of its laid down duties.  These values he pointed out will guarantee the credibility of the institution and enable all parties spontaneously adhere to its decisions.

The deliberations and exchanges that followed the presentations at the seminar were an opportunity for the participants to become better acquainted with the missions of the Office, comprehend the services its renders to the public as well as identify common grounds for positive collaboration.
